Sustainability
More than a fancy word for smart.
At Stapleton, one of our core principals is to create a community that is a living example of progressive, sustainable practices. That sounds good -- and you're probably hearing that word bounced around a lot these days -- but what does it really mean? To some it means tree-hugging environmentalism. To other's it's all about classic design. And to others, it means economic growth and vitality. To us, it means creating a place that will retain long term value for its residents, businesses, for the earth and for everyone that touches it -- and a bit of all of the above, as well. Our sustainability program is intended to produce true lasting results.
Keeping the Great Outdoors Great
As of the end of 2007, more than 26,464 trees have been planted at Stapleton, improving the physical, social and emotional health of the community.
Since the completion of the 80-acre Central Park, it has increased the amount of Denver parks by 30%.
There will be more than 81 miles of sidewalk at build-out -- much of which is made from the recycled former Stapleton Airport runways.
All of our homebuilders participate in the ENERGY STAR program
All of our office buildings are built to LEED Green Building standards
Stapleton has more than 93% participation in the city recycling program - the highest of any Denver neighborhood. Denver Recycles provides free curbside recycling throughout Stapleton.
All of the former runways and 200,000 tons of asphalt from the old parking lots have been recycled both in the community as sidewalks, roadways, bridges, pathways and bike paths throughout the region.
Nearly 30% of Stapleton is dedicated to open and green space promoting outdoor activity and health.
There are 50 exercise classes offered indoors and out throughout the community.
